Shostakovich 50th Anniversary Concert

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of his death, the MPO led by Sergey Smbatyan pays tribute to Dmitri Shostakovich with a programme reflecting the brilliance and emotional depth of his music. Forming part of the evenings programme we give you Concerto No. 1, showcasing expressive intensity and virtuosic flair. Symphony No. 6 opens with an elegiac movement of profound introspection. It is followed by two brisk, satirical movements, offering biting humour, rhythmic drive, and flashes of irony characteristic of the composer’s unique voice.
