A local, audiovisual magazine committed to providing engaging and insightful reviews of performing and visual arts.
We write reviews not to please, but to engage, challenge, and push artistic discourse forward. We don’t do fluff. We don’t do safe. We do critical, honest, and informed writing that respects the work but never sugarcoats it.

Our reviews are never paid for by artists, producers, or institutions under review. Financial support for Kritikarti (grants, sponsorships, donations) does not influence our opinions. We do not accept gifts, favours, or perks that could compromise the integrity of our critique. We accept press tickets, but this does not buy a good review. When necessary, we will purchase tickets to ensure full independence.
If a reviewer has a personal, financial, or professional connection to the work or artist, this must be declared upfront. When a conflict of interest is too significant, the reviewer will step back.
We don’t just say whether we “liked it” or not. We evaluate work based on its own ambitions and artistic integrity. Some key areas:
- Concept & Execution: Is it fresh? Does it land?
- Technical Elements: Lighting, sound, design, staging, materials, curation.
- Performance Quality: Do the performers serve the work? Does the artistic vision translate?
- Emotional & Intellectual Impact: Does it hit, or does it miss?
- Cultural & Artistic Relevance: Does it contribute something meaningful?
Artists can respond to reviews, but our opinions remain ours. We welcome discourse: responses may be published. If factual inaccuracies are pointed out, we correct them. But we don’t rewrite critiques because someone didn’t like them.
Reviews are edited for clarity, coherence, and factual accuracy—not for tone. Harsh critiques will not be softened unless they are unnecessarily personal or unfairly dismissive. The Kritikarti editorial team ensures that reviews adhere to our standards, not politeness.
We believe criticism should be alive, not robotic academic writing. Our tone ranges from intellectual to irreverent, sharp to poetic, depending on the work we engage with. We value bold, opinionated voices over lukewarm analysis. We are not afraid of negative reviews, but critique is not just about tearing things down. We engage deeply, whether we love or hate a piece.
Malta’s art scene deserves real critique, not PR spin. Kritikarti exists to provide space for rigorous, unfiltered, and passionate discourse—for the artists who make, the audiences who engage, and the future of our cultural landscape. If you’re here for soft reviews and easy praise, this isn’t your platform. If you’re here for truthful, unapologetic, and necessary criticism, buckle up.
